This is one of the oldest structures in Iceland, dating from the 900s. Workers discovered the site while renovating the buildings shown in the previous photo. Iceland completed the excavation, built this wonderful underground museum that conserve and interprets the site, and then replaced the buildings. The entire museum is under the structures at street level.
