The ackee (Blighia sapida) is a member of the Sapindaceae (soapberry family), native to tropical West Africa. Although native to West Africa, the use of ackee in food is especially prominent in Jamaican cuisine. Ackee is the national fruit of Jamaica, and ackee and saltfish is the national dish.
Falmouth market. This area is generally unvisited by tourists, although it offer a slice of Jamaican life not seen within the cruise port.
The Falmouth cruise port is completely fenced off from the community. Street lights and paved walking paths are on the tourist (terminal) side of the fence.
